How to Test an AI Chatbot Before You Buy (A Simple Checklist)

Don't buy an AI chatbot on faith. Use this checklist to test one on your own website first — accuracy, honesty, languages, lead capture, and setup.

An AI chatbot is only worth it if it actually helps your customers. Before you commit to any tool, test it properly — ideally on your own website, with real questions. Here's a simple checklist.

Start with a no-signup preview

The fastest first step: run the chatbot on your own site with zero setup. Our free preview lets you paste your URL and chat with an AI trained on your pages in seconds — a real test before any commitment.

The 7-point test

1. Does it answer from your content?

Ask something specific to your business (a policy, your hours, a product detail). It should answer accurately from your site — not with generic filler.

2. Does it stay honest?

Ask something that isn't on your site. A trustworthy chatbot says it doesn't have that information instead of inventing a price, date, or phone number.

3. Does it handle follow-ups?

Real conversations have context. Ask a follow-up ("and how much is that?") and see if it keeps up.

4. Can it speak your customers' languages?

If you serve international or multilingual customers, it should reply in the visitor's language automatically. Multilingual support is a big differentiator.

5. Does it capture leads?

Answering questions is good; turning visitors into contacts is better. Check whether it can collect names and emails.

6. Can it take actions, not just talk?

The best chatbots book appointments or look things up — securely — rather than only answering FAQs.

7. How hard is setup?

It should install with one line of code and require no coding to configure. If you need a developer just to get started, that's a red flag.

Match it to your brand

Presentation matters too. In our preview you can set the brand colour, style, light/dark mode, title, and avatar — so you can see it looking like your site, not a generic widget.

Then go live with confidence

Once a chatbot passes the test, going live should be easy. Start a free trial and add it with one line of code — or run the preview first if you haven't yet.
